"Calibrating" is just a fancy term for raising and lowering the vertical screw behind the handle on the big table press. Most people just have the screw lowered enough so the handle doesn't hit it and then never do anything else with it.
In rare cases, if you find that you're pressing too hard and damaging the fastener that you're installing as a result, the screw can be raised to prevent the handle from lowering beyond that point. This will limit the amount of pressure against the fastener.
