In my original review of 9-2024, I stated that the BuckleGuy dies fit perfect. Well, they do.....kinda.
The KamSnap DK93 ramrod, where the upper die is screwed into, is threaded for M8-1.25. According to their website, the BuckleGuy dies are listed as "Diameter of threaded upper die: 7.8mm and a 1.411mm thread pitch". I figured that "7.8mm" was basically 8mm. I was wrong. When I received the DK93, the BG upper die threaded fine...or so I thought. It threads about 2 turns and then stops. But its works. So I wrote my first positive review.
Wondering why they wouldn't thread all the way, I tested the BG dies with my standards set and they are actually 5/16" x 18. I have no idea why BG would list their die thread in mm with such an odd number (7.8 x 1.41) instead of the correct 5/16 x 18.
I have been using the dies for 3 months now and they are holding up fine screwed in only 2 turns.
I also bought the KamSnap Pressing dies, which, of course, fit in the DK93 perfectly, screwing all the way in. So I decided to test the pressing dies with my BG hand-held die handle. It wouldn't thread.
Oh.....I bought a M8 to 5/16 adapter at McMaster, but it was too long and wouldn't work. I also considered flipping the ramrod over and tapping the other end with 5/16, but the side groove and screw hole on the ramrod don't match up when you do that. So, I 'm just going to use it like it is. I may see if I can find a machinist to fabricate a new ramrod.
So, bottom line: If you are using the BuckleGuy dies, the DK93 will save you a LOT of money, but the dies don't screw all the way in. They work, but only kinda. If this type of thing drives you crazy, get the BG press (if you are using BG dies). The ONLY difference that I can see between the BG and the Kamsnap press is the threading of the ramrod. They appear to be the exact same press otherwise. Awesome quality. Hope this helps and clarifies my first review. Best regards.
