This sweet bouquet of felt flower pens make for a pretty and practical gift for anyone in your life, particularly those who constantly misplace pens like myself. The felt flowers make the pens much harder to lose, which is why you'll often see flower pens at stores when you need to sign credit card slips.
This is an upcycled project that uses a tin can for the vase, which is simply wrapped in marine vinyl and decorated with some ribbon and snap fasteners. KAM snaps are also used for the center of the flowers.
The flowers themselves make great detachable embellishments for headbands, shoes, wristlets, handbags, and more!
Materials needed:
Download free pattern and print true to size. Flowers will be approx. 2.5" across. Trace the pattern onto your felt and cut.
Thread your needle and sew a straight line across the bottom of your felt.
Tightly pull the thread taut so that your felt bunches up and transforms into a flower.
Run your needle to the other end of your felt piece and tie a tight knot to secure the flower shape. Sew the two ends of your petals together to complete your flower shape.
Using your KAM snap pliers or KAMsnaps KX8J professional handheld press, install your size 24 black snaps (cap-stud) as shown.
This is what the front and back of your flowers will look like.
Hot glue the back of your flowers to the bottoms of your pens.
Now to make the vase for your flower bouquet. Measure the length and diameter of your tin can.
Cut a piece of marine vinyl that will wrap around your tin can.
Print the pattern for your scallops here: free scallop pattern. Print at 50% and 45% scale (not true or original size). Trace the pattern onto your marine vinyl and cut.
Overlap your two scallops with the smaller scallop on top. Poke a hole in the center of the scallops with your awl. Then set aside.
Cut 4 pieces of different colored ribbon 5.5" long. Apply fray check to both ribbon ends, or use a lighter and singe the ends to prevent fraying.
Tie your ribbons into a bow. Then poke a hole through the 4 layers of ribbon in the back of the bow, and through your marine vinyl.
Using your KAM snap pliers or KAMsnaps KX8J professional handheld press, install your size 20 snaps (caps-sockets) as shown to secure your bow to your marine vinyl.
Take your scallops, and using your awl, poke a hole now through your back/3rd layer of marine vinyl. This hole will mark the center of your first heart shaped snap. Install your heart snap (cap-socket).
Install your letter "M" engraved snaps to spell mom with a heart.
Install your snap fasteners at each side of your marine vinyl as shown.
The front and back of your marine vinyl will look like this.
Wrap your marine vinyl around your tin can and fasten all the snaps.
Fill your can with dried beans, pebbles, uncooked rice, etc... then start arranging your flowers. This was made especially for my mom and mom-in-law for mother's day, but you can gift these to your family, teachers, friends and co-workers because everyone can use pens!
